It Wasn’t Meant to BeArtist’s Book
2020
A single edition artist’s book created from a mistakenly shot, panoramic roll of film, with images spanning August to December 2016. In revisiting and transforming this work, renewed life and context is given to the series of images taken.
In the final months of 2016 and 2020, with the help of psychotherapy, I committed to working through personal and public political concerns, including abusive relationships with hookups and family, inability to properly care for myself, and deepening political convictions in the face of increasingly visible fascism.
Through these periods, both encapsulated in the book-object, I give voice to my growth, as well as meditate on the ways in which cycles recur, are relived, and how powerful it is to reclaim mistakes towards growth.
